Rune Fjord Jensen, born 1966 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Lives in Copenhagen
Bosch & Fjord is a collaboration between the artists Rune Fjord Jensen and Rosan
Bosch. Since 2001 they have developed a number of projects uniting art, design and architecture. These projects often intervene in existing structures, e.g. organizations, places of work or schools. For example, they have designed Mindlab, a new, highly challenging office environment for the Danish Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs. For Ordrup Elementary School, they have created furniture and equipment that set new standards for learning and play, and for Innovation Lab's premises at the IT University of Copenhagen, they have developed a mobile office environment which, in principle, can be packed and unpacked in less than two hours. Thus, Bosch & Fjord use art and design to break down ingrained habits and inveterate ways of thinking in the attempt to enable a dialogue with the end-users for whom their environments have been created. They are quite familiar with large formats and often use signal colours and unexpected materials to make people sit up and pay attention.
For this exhibition, Bosch & Fjord have created the work Den rde trd (The Connecting Thread), which is simply a physical red thread that connects all the places where something takes place as part of the quadrennial. The thread can be found in the streets of the city where it literally links one place to another - from house to house, from street lamp to parking sign, Den rde trd interlinks the activities of U-TURN. It arouses our curiosity, makes us stop and wonder and guides us to the many different exhibitions, events and projects in Copenhagen, rhus, Stege and Berlin.
Every day a person wearing red will inspect the red thread and make sure that the work is still visible in the streets. Throughout the entire exhibition Den rde trd will announce the existence of U-TURN and the wish to involve everybody in Denmark's first quadrennial. It is an event, a performance, an interactive work of art and a communication strategy as well as an open and flexible tool for U-TURN. Anyone can pick up the red thread, and take it further, be inspired by it, adorn themselves with it or insert it somewhere else on the street, in the city and thereby actively participate in U-TURN. -CBB
